MOISTURIZING NATURAL HAIR

Moisturizing

Highly textured hair has a tendency to be dry and prone to breakage. Black women who choose to wear their hair in its natural state should always focus on adequately moisturizing the hair. Regular use of deep conditioners is important. Ideally, products with the least amount of chemical processing should be used. Shea butter and coconut oil is a products that many black women with natural hair use to add moisture and luster to the hair. SheaInstitute.com recommends shea butter use for the skin, scalp, and hair because of its rich antioxidant and vitamin A content

Protective Styling

Black women with natural hair may find that their hair is actualy quite fragile. The curled or coiled structure of the hair strands presents a potential point of breakage at every bend. Protective styling will reduce the risk of breakage and hair damage. Using styles that protect the edges and ends of the hair will help to ensure healthy, natural hair. Easy protective styles that keep the hair free of tangles and split ends are cornrow braids, twists and buns.   braids should not be tight at the root as the tension will result in a type of alopecia.

Detangling

The curly and coiled texture most black women with natural hair have can make detangling difficult. The curls and coils fold over themselves and cause tangles, knots, and snags. Black women with natural hair should detangle their hair section by section with a wide-tooth shower comb. It is best to detangle highly textured natural hair while it is wet with conditioner. The conditioner acts as a lubricant and makes combing much easier. Natural hair should be combed carefully, from the ends toward the roots .

Product build up and colour build up can make your hair clamy, lifeless, and smelly

What causes product build up on hair?

There are a number of factors that cause product build up on hair:

  • Infrequent washing
  • Inefficient washing
  • Waxy and/or heavy type products that sit on the hair/scalp (certain oils are heavy and if applied to the scalp causes build up)
  • Not thoroughly rinsing the hair before applying conditioner
  • Not completely rinsing out the conditioner before applying shampoo (CWC method)
  • Overlapping or over using heavy silicone laden products
  • Applying to much product to the scalp
  • Applying to many products to the hair
  • Not cleaning the scalp well
  • Hair  colour rinces aplied to frequnt and not shampoo or rinsed out properly
How do you remove and reduce product build up?
The best way to remove product build up on hair is to use a clarifying shampoo. Actually, I use a 2 step method of shampooing. Clarifying shampoos are formulated to clean the hair giving it that squeaky to almost too squeaky clean feeling that lets you know that it’s clean. Clarifying shampoos should not be used regularly like your regular shampoo.
Apple cider vinegar rinses can be used to remove product build up film as well, but I definitely suggest using with caution because over use of ACV can cause your once supple soft hair feel like straw!
When applying product to your hair, be mindful that less is best. You don’t want to weigh the hair down. If you do want to weigh it down, use a product that is designed to do that job.
Reduce the amount of products you use on your hair. Layering the hair with products is probably an unnecessary step, especially if you are trying to figure out what each product does for your hair.
Get some shampoo on the scalp and give it a good cleaning every now and then to remove the products that have been sitting on it. After shampooing and you run your nails across your scalp, you shouldn’t have gunk under your nails. I call deep cleansing. and I provide this to my clients as a treatment.

WHEN DO I USE A CLARIFYING SHAMPOO?

When To Use a Clarifying Shampoo
There are many reasons why a clarifying treatment may be necessary. For example, you may notice that your hair and scalp feel coated and your moisturizing shampoo doesn’t seem to be working very well. Let’s dive into a few of the most common reasons that you may be due for a clarifying treatment.

To Remove Product Build-up
There are many products that are used regularly on black natural hair that aren’t water-soluble, like the various oils that many women utilize. These products will eventually build-up on your hair strands and cause your other products to be less effective. Your normal shampoo, which is likely a moisturizing shampoo, won’t be able to consistently wash away product build-up.

When You Want to Try a New Set of Products
This is one of Jael’s favorite tips and it’s for women who love to try new products. In order to truly see how a new product will perform on your hair, it’s best to clarify before you add a new product to your regimen. Otherwise, you may be applying the new product to hair that has old product in it already. This doesn’t really provide you with an accurate assessment of your new product.
When Your Current Products Stop Working

Now let’s take the previous tip a step further. When your current products stop working like they normally do, it’s potentially time for a clarifying treatment. This is generally caused by product build-up and clarifying could be the answer to your problems.
When Your Hair Feels Oily or Greasy

Women who have hair that naturally feels oily or greasy, may need to clarify more often. This process should leave your hair feeling squeaky clean.example locs, after the  removal of braids as the first shampoo.
A Few Tips for Swimmers

We actually suggest a couple of things for swimmers. Prior to entering the water, we typically suggest that you gently wet your hair with water and apply a leave-in conditioner or oil For example, in the shower prior to going in the pool. This should make your hair less prone to absorbing chlorine when entering the pool. This is critical because chlorine and other common chemicals contained in swimming pools can lead to problems if you don’t take the properly precautions. After you complete your swim, be sure to use your clarifying shampoo mitigate any potential damage.
Some Basic Advice About Clarifying Shampoo

If you don’t currently have a good clarifying shampoo, it’s something that you should consider adding to your regimen. Many women clarify on a monthly basis, however we typically suggest that you clarify as needed. It’s best to learn when your hair needs a clarifying treatment, because there are times when clarifying more frequently is appropriate – like for product junkies and women with naturally oily hair. Keep in mind that these are only examples. You will need to examine the needs of your hair and your regimen, and then determine how often you need to use a clarifying shampoo.

Can Hair loss reversed or slowed down???

Can other types of hair loss be reversed or slowed down?

Many forms of hair loss will actually reverse on their own. With those caused by a raised temperature, for example, the hair will be assaulted that day you have a raised temperature and, for various reasons, particularly the hair growth cycle, it's three months before the hair falls out. So it is then subsequently another three months before it regrows but it will do it spontaneously in many, many cases

Lets talk about Oils and why we ues them on our hair

PURE AND TRUE SALLYANNES 100% NATURAL COCONUT OIL

According the Journal of Cosmetic Science, there are a few oils that penetrate the hair strand and my favorite is coconut oil. The journal goes on to say that coconut oil is best used as a pre-wash treatment vs. an oil to seal in moisture.

The absolute best moisturizer for hair is water! Water based products have water/aqua listed as a primary ingredient and generally do not contain proteins, lanolin, mineral oil or petroleum jelly – grease. They may also include glycerin or some type of humectant that attract moisture from the air.
A sealer or sealant is a product that is applied to the hair to “trap in” the moisturizer that has been applied. A sealer is not a penetrating product. It is a product that sits on top of the hair.
Sealants can be heavy oils like Jojoba Oil, Castor Oil, or Olive Oil from your kitchen cabinet. Sealants can also be various other products like grease, petroleum jelly, mineral oil or lanolin. These products are sealers because they sit on top of the hair strand.
In essence, the purpose of the sealer is to keep the hair from drying out so fast. The sealer that works best for my hair is SallyAnne 100% Natural coconut oil

Do you know what you should be eating? For heathly Hair ,Skin, Nails

//

Food types that I recommend incorporating into your diet.

1: Eat your beans. Beans are a great source of protein, gas, and other nutrients.pret sells a great bean soup,

2: Asparagus and spinach, anyone? What about broccoli? Surely you can find a few vitamin-packed dark green veggies to incorporate into your diet.or blend all greens and have it for your morning breakfast ,apple, pear, cucmber, celery, spinach, and a juice of a lime try it its not as bad as you may think.

3: Nuts aren’t just for squirrels  Some nuts are thought to benefit the scalp, like brazil nuts, while others are great sources of zinc and other nutrients. According to many experts, for example Columbia University Health Services, proper zinc intake can mitigate excessive hair shedding. Zinc can be obtained through many other foods besides nuts, like meats and cheese as well.

4: What’s your favorite egg dish? I really like a good frittata or quiche,   lightly scrambled egg mixed with sardens. Regardless of how you prefer your eggs, they provide a great source of protein for your diet and are always a staple in my meal plan.

5: Vitamin A promotes a healthy scalp, so look for foods packed with this vitamin. How about raw carrots? .

6: Yogurt, milk and even cottage cheese are great options to incorporate into your diet. They provide good sources of calcium, protein and other nutrients.

7: Whole grains can add a nice dose of zinc, iron, and B vitamins to your diet. I would recommend adding a few whole grain foods to your diet – like whole grain bread, cereal and brown rice.

8: Finally, chicken, turkey, lean-beef and salmon provide high-quality sources of protein – in addition to other nutrients
.
Bonus Tip: While it’s true that drinking water doesn’t directly lead to increased hair growth. However, being properly hydrated is an important factor in your ability to retain length. Several different areas of the body are made up of mostly water. When your body is dehydrated, the critical areas of your body that need water for your survival will receive water first. As you might have imagined, your hair isn’t at the top of the list. So, your hair needs water – inside and outside
